Spring Cleansing, with Flor•Essence®

Spring Cleansing, with Flor•Essence®

Hooray! Spring is finally, finally here. Winter can be tough in the best of years, but spending the season cooped up indoors during a pandemic without the company of friends has been an added burden on many of us.

Warmer weather is traditionally a time to spring clean your house — to clean all the clutter off that one table where it always collects, mop the floors, and if you’re feeling really ambitious, wash the windows. When you’re spending so much time in one place, it’s nice to have it well cared for. The same thing is true for our bodies. After all, we’re always in them. That’s why it’s a good idea to do an internal spring clean, or a cleanse.

If that word makes you nervous, don’t worry. We’re talking about a gentle, sensible cleanse. No starving yourself, no harsh laxatives that leave you trapped in the bathroom. We wouldn’t do that to you. There are just four simple steps. For one week:

  1. Eat more fibre-rich foods. The idea of a cleanse is to help waste move gently through your gastrointestinal tract, and that’s exactly what fibre does. Chow down on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, and nuts, and stay away from processed foods. They tend to be low in fibre and high in white flour, which can be constipating.
  • Drink more water. Water helps your kidneys flush toxins out of your body, so during a cleanse, you should drink a little more than usual. Don’t go crazy; ten cups a day should do the trick. You can drink warm green tea, which is rich in antioxidants, as part of that extra fluid intake. Make it decaf, though, because on a cleanse, you avoid caffeine.
  • Steer clear of alcohol, caffeine, and sugar. Your liver is your main organ of detoxification, and too much alcohol is not good for it. So on a cleanse, you push the pause button on the booze. Plus, the beneficial bacteria that live in your gut are not fans of alcohol (with the exception of red wine), and they turn up their noses at caffeine and sugar, too. When your gut bacteria aren’t happy, your gut’s not happy.
  • Take your Flor-Essence®. Flor-Essence is not a harsh diuretic or a laxative. Instead, it gently enhances your body’s natural processes of digestion and elimination. Four times a year is a good schedule for cleansing, so we like to do it at the change of seasons as a way to enter each new phase of the year feeling renewed. However, if you need extra support, Flor-Essence® is mild enough to take daily.

What’s in Flor-Essence®?

Flor-Essence® is a blend of detoxifying herbs we call the Great Eight.

  1. Burdock Root
  2. Sheep Sorrel
  3. Slippery Elm Bark
  4. Blessed Thistle
  5. Watercress
  6. Red Clover
  7. Rhubarb Root
  8. Kelp

Working together, these herbs provide antioxidant protection against damaging free radicals, and they help your body gently flush out toxins through the liver, kidneys, colon, blood, mucous membranes, and skin. And of course, Flor-Essence® is organic, gluten-free, kosher, Non-GMO Project Verified, and vegan, so no matter what your diet, you can take it.

Now that you have a plan for cleansing your body, it’s time to tackle those windows.
